The money he made is down to him being one of the most capped English players of all time, making his premier league debut aged 17, winning the Champions League title, the treble, 6 premiership titles, qualifying England for the world cup at the last minute against Greece.... and of course his looks and wife.
"The team behind brand Beckham" exists because of his achievement on the pitch not the other way around.
