New Yorkers, Caroline Kennedy for the Senate?

What do you guys think of this?

The Senate seat is a publicly elected official. Shouldn't an appointment to that seat be some sort of other publicly elected official? Perhaps a congressman or an assemblyman or somebody of that sort, as opposed to a woman that has a powerful name?

If she gets that seat, I can only imagine how pissed off the congressman and assemblyman will be. Strange situation. Granted, the governor can appoint who he likes... it just seems that it should be somebody that has been in the public eye or has been elected in some way shape or form.
