However, if it's just one or a few spiders you may want to try putting out a few of those sticky boards people use for mice. They also work incredibly well for attracting spiders, as they have a kind of odd peanut-buttery smell to them.

Also there's an electronic gizmo out there that you just plug into any wall outlet and it drives all manner of bugs and critters out and away from your home.
