I'm normally not one to blame TV, but Jackass has caused a lot of this behavior.
I know a guy who is a diehard fan of the show and for about 10 years emulated their stunts with his friends. Now his body is falling apart. He has dead bone in his feet, a bad knee and a fucked up back.
