NO NONONONIOONONONONONO stay as far away from Times Square as possible. Lots of great stuff in Harlem, lots of great stuff in both east and west villages, SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, maybe head over to Peter Luger's in Brooklyn or down to Old Homestead on 9th and 12th(not sure about that address) for some amazing steaks if you can get a reservation/table.
If you want to see some freaks, head out to St. Mark's between 2nd ave and Ave A.
I'm not a big fan of the bronx, queens or staten Island so depending on what you're looking for YMMV.
