Most people here have the tendency to exaggerate their earnings, it's quite possible that New Carrer was just barely making a living in adult, or treating it as beer money.
He was a known member of the community, his son got cancer, the world changed for him (as it would for evryone), he collected the donations, made 1-2 threads with update about his son, and then just started working extra jobs offline and abandoned whatever he had going on in this biz, including GFY. I wouldnt be hanging out here anymore either, in such situation...
