I see bald eagles and golden eagles many, many times a week with my day job(often tiems within 50-100 feet). I can tell you first hand, that a 3 foot tall eagle with a 6 foot wingspan isnt a fabrication. These birds get fucking huge.

On the beach near Vancouver Canada we were about 200 ft from a massive eagle. It seemed 10 feet tall (but we were kids so who knows)
They do get huge
