WTF: Chase not processing my chargeback
I guess I'm half asking for advice, half venting...
Last May I saw a handful of pending charges on my (then WaMu) checking account, $1 preauths for Itunes and the Iphone App store. I called them up right away as I don't have an ipod or iphone, and they said there was nothing they could do until a charge posted. The next day I had a preauth for $1000 from a company in Spain, called, got the same response. Two days later the charge posted, so I called again, disputed it, and canceled my debit card. They issued a credit for the amount and the guy told me they'd send some paperwork for me to fill out but it could take awhile...
I never received any paperwork, and then today they reverse the credit, and debit that $1000 back out of my account. I called them up, and apparantly Chase's official position is that because the CVV number on the transaction matches the one on my card, and I stated that I did have the card in my possession at the time, they will not process a chargeback. The only way they'll look into my case furthur is if I provide a police report.
I just don't get how members who signup to porn sites can download the members area and charge back the $30 when their wives see the charge, yet I get dinged for $1k and have to fight my bank even though I disputed it the actual day of the charge.
Local branch manager was no help, and the local police department of my branch won't do a police report over the phone. I submitted an fbi internet crime report and have an ID for that, I wonder if it's enough to get Chase to reopen the dispute...
