Yeah I hear ya...I'd much rather see a real German production of a story like this --- BUT, it doesn't bother me that much. They used the same transtioning device from foreign language to English, as done in Hunt for Red October and 13th Warrior.
So while you hear them speaking English, at least you can imagine that they are really speaking German to each other. Two minutes after they faded into English, I was ready to sit back and enjoy the story, which is a part of history I knew nothing about. So if they;re going about it that way, it didn't matter if they spoke with American accents, British, whatever.
If you want to see a good German production set in ww2, watch Downfall, about Hitler's last days.
