There are a number of things you could have had:
- acute otitis media - middle ear infection, extremely common, usually responds well to antibiotics.
- otitis media with effusion, could result from barotrauma, allergies or aom - quite common, can lead to hearing loss, antibiotics won't do shit. If resulting from allergies, antihistamines might help.
- acute mastoiditis - mild versions often occur with aom and will go away with antibiotics, but severe versions can also result which have the potential to kill or paralyze you if surgery isn't performed.
And that's ignoring quite a few other options which, while highly unlikely, are quite serious. For example, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, ossifying fibroma, fibrosarcoma, etc. are all things you'd probably want to get spotted early on.
But maybe you'd prefer it if doctors decided to automatically assume the most common cause without actually having a good look first? Just prescribe antibiotics without a proper diagnosis? The type of thing that would virtually guarantee that 50 years from now, virtually every bacterium in existence will be resistant to antibiotics?
I have to wonder... if a doctor overlooked something big, which caused permanent damage or even death in you or any of your loved ones, would you consider "Well, the patient googled his symptoms and was pretty sure it was something else" a good excuse? |

I'm a very healthy person, rarely get sick, hate going to the doctor because I think its retarded to get charged insane prices for something I already know.

You know how many times I've been to a doctor or a family member has and they FUCKED shit up because they are retarded as a bag of fucking sand?
My father died of a heart attack that could have been prevented if the retarded doctors he visited actually knew their heads from their asses.
He was complaining of chest pains that were almost like acid reflux but he wasn't sure, said he'd get it after eating spicy foods or something, so he choked it up to acid reflux, but also wasn't sure so he went to an oh so bright doctor, and the doctor said yeah, that's all it was...
Well after he died, a doctor who obviously knew what he was doing actually proved that those 2 to 3 times a week he'd have "acid reflux" were actually mild heart attacks that he was having FOR A FUCKING YEAR STRAIGHT.
Oh, and also when a friend of mine was going in for her last checkup before giving birth the retarded doctor broke her water and didn't even notice it, and then when she was having bad contractions for 2 days straight he said he couldn't do anything until her water broke, so she waited and waited watching it, almost lost her child.
