The best thing for you to do would be to go to your favorite camera shop, and tell them that you want a general purpose lens that gives you typical 35mm AND the zoom power that you want.
I have a DX80 and the lens that came with it suits me well (25mm-300). What I wish I had though was a "Faster" lens so that I could take better night time pictures. A faster lens will let in more light and hopefully reduce the "noise" I get now. I would love to take pictures of a sky full of stars with the shutter speed set to 1hr and produce a clear image.
