The exact same could be said for L Ron Hubbard. And we all know what kind of bullshit that is. The fact that he was popular, doesn't make it true.

The fact that influent/famous people used his services(AGAIN, in a time and age when people believed all kinds of supernatural for no reason) doesn't make him and his work a fact.

Tom Cruise, rich, famous --> Scientology. Does it make scientology true? No, it doesn't.

You are using a mix of "Ad verecundiam" and "Ad populum" to justify his and your claims.
