I have great chat software, but I think it costs more than $500 now. Well actually, it's about $500 for 500 users for one domain. I decided to buy the edition that lets me have multiple chat rooms on multiple domains (all on same server) - it was a few hundred more, but left me room for expansion. I would up your budget a bit if possible - well I guess you could start smaller, for around $300 and then upgrade when you get mor than 100 people in your chat rooms
