yes
[BLOCKQUOTE]Did you really think it was relevant to answer a 4 year old thread? All you did was run a search for chat and then proceed to post your site's url in each of them no matter how old the thread was, thats spamming. Look at the date of the thread you are posting in, and even if you couldn't post a live link you could of simply typed out the url.[/BLOCKQUOTE]
Yes, I do think it is relevant to answer questions that are years old, especially considering most of the questions I have read here were not answered very well, if it all. Posting relevant information about current and old topics is helpful for the new webmasters that come in and look for information in the forums. Perhaps people such as yourself find no value in old information, but I find value in years old information everyday. I assume that other people coming to forums such as these would appreciate relevant answers to questions as well.
I did run a search for chat, but I did not post my url in every thread, although that would appear to be par for the course here at gfy, where people post one line answers, often not relevant to the conversation. Some people simply post a few smileys and have a dozen urls in their sig. So according to the status quo here, even if I did do that it would just be what everyone else is doing. So unless you all calling every person here a spammer, then I suppose you should reconsider that label as it applies to me.
I admit that I do not pay much attention to the date of the thread I am adding information to, if that offends you, I apologize, as not offense was intended. I would suggest if you do not want to read old threads, then you check the date and click the back button.
According the Matt Cutts, head of the spam team at google, adding relevant information to a topic is not spam. Looking at a majority of the posts on the current threads, a majority of the users on this board do not add relevant information to the threads, and have a dozen links posted - so I will take their definition to heart, and I always do when commenting in forums, blogs, etc.
I have followed the rules of this board, and the ethics that are suggested by web spam experts. If old threads should not be kept alive, then perhaps your beef is really with the board, and not the people who are trying to share information. I would suggest the board add a "date started" column to the main page for each forum if that is such an issue for you. If you think old threads should be closed, then suggest the board admin do that. Quite frankly I would keep all the old threads open, as this place is supposed to help new adult webmasters and old alike.
If posting relative links to conversations bothers you, then perhaps you should suggest that they remove all links from all posts. That is an issue for the board administrators however, and not an issue you should have with me. Your attacks, and those by others on me are un-warranted. Your real issue is with the board. I would appreciate an apology, but perhaps you could send that as a pm - so you don't reply again and "bump an old thread" as that appears to really offend you, lace, watter and some other folks for some reason.
