In a criminal matter you never say anything. Unless you are a well known high profile criminal defense attorney that has certain reporters in your pocket that you know will get out your story in the exact way you want it out there - basically the guys that will let you write your own statement and will not twist it.

Otherwise it is a huge risk to take.

In that situation, before you do ANYTHING else, call your attorney, tell them anything and everything you know about the situation, and then ask "what should I do?"

Do NOT discuss the matter with anybody else, and do NOT discuss it with any manner of media outlet, in particular.

It's always better to give your attorney a chance to deal with things before they become a publicly known clusterfuck of the "he said/she said" variety, regardless of whether it is a criminal or civil matter, but it is all the more important when there's potential for serious criminal liability.
