I live alone and have a standard gas water heater tank. So I crank it DOWN to it's lowest setting as it's normal setting. When I want a shower, I go turn it up and 5 minutes later, tons of super hot water. After the shower I go crank it back down.
Dont know the savings in dollars, but I know it makes no sense to keep super heated water at the ready 24/7. And a lower temp means it has to run for less time, and less often.
Stick a thermometer in your fridge and freezer and adjust. If you keep your freezer mostly empty, fill it up with ice or something. Thermal mass and all that.
Try LED lights.
