Yes there are timers.
You can also get an insulated jacket to fit around the tank.
As far as groceries I buy as much as I can at the warehouse type stores. BJ's Wholesale and Sams Club etc. Amazing what you can 2 or 3 of in a larger size and about the same price as one at the local grocery store.
