Calling all So Cal people..

Looking for suggestions.... Where should I stay if I'm hauling the family down in October for a week and we want to do the touristy stuff in the LA area and San Diego? (not Disneyland though). Two of the group does have to be in Anaheim for the first two days though.

There is a possibility of switching hotels partway through.. spend some days in a LA hotel and then a few days in an SD hotel.
