As someone who has managed several service industry businesses in AZ it's a big enough pain in the ass when ONE employee doesn't show up when you run a well-oiled machine.
Any time you have certain people hired to do specific jobs you usually train them to do that job and only that job. Especially in a bar/restaurant.
Only reason I'd not be upset is if we were way over staffed and really, really slow and I was expecting that.
In three years I never had ANYONE request a day off and when denied, take it off anyway. They all knew they would no longer have a job unless they got it covered before hand.
You really can't bring your own political, religious, moral, whatever beliefs into a business setting. You were hired to do a specific job at a specific rate of pay, and there are 50 other people I can hire to do the same thing if you don't want to do it. You're paid to do a job, do it to the best of your ability and be a whiney cry-baby on your own time.
