Being the child of single parents, divorced parents... not exactly fun. It makes for a very awkward and challenging childhood. Now I certainly don't think that couples should stay together simply because they have kids if they don't get along, but I do think you should at least try to avoid putting your kids in that situation. If it happens, it happens... but don't walk into it.

I agree that a child is better off being brought up in a single parent household versus one with a couple that is fighting or stressful and tension filled. The 50s generation didn't believe in divorce or it had more of a taboo associated with it, but many of those marriages shouldn't have been kept together just for the kids' sake.
