I hold the opinion that people who worry more about spelling and proper use of grammar than the actual intention of the statement (which was quite clear to anyone that doesn't nitpick) should find better things to worry about. Your tirade about effect and affect is simply deflection and an attempt at attacking his credibility, which didn't work, because the rest of us can clearly understand what he meant and really don't give a rats behind that he misused a very commonly misused word.
A PhD in English could run circles around you or anyone else on this board. Does that mean our opinions don't count, simply because we don't know perfect definition and perfect punctuation? Absolutely not.
