Yesterday I just finished Lee Iacocca's book. He was the President of Ford and then later Chrysler. In the end he compared the US automakers to Japan. And the difference is in Japan they respect their workers, and the unions work with management to get things done. Here in the US it's the direct opposite.
In Japan, your typical auto plant has "six jobs". And if a worker in Japan shows up for work and is told today he'll be sweeping floors, he does it without complaint. Imagine that in the US.
