BTW I like your avatar. I am going white tail hunting this year for the first time with a bow. Not sure how much success I will have but its going to help me scout further for shotgun season.
Do you got mule deer out your way? If so might be an easier first hunt with a bow. They are dumb as nails. Whitetails are pretty flighty in my experience. Would be interesting, but I just couldn't be bothered to hunt whitetail with a bow. I've taken a mule with a bow, but you can literally walk up on them bedded down and yell right at them and half the time they'll turn around to look at you and see what you're doing. Mule deer are a draw back home, unless you hunt with a primitive weapon. So a lot of guys will hunt just the mule deer in the early season. I've been thinking about getting into muzzleloading myself. I would like to do more archery, I'm just more confident in my ability to make a clean kill with a rifle...
