czech republic has very liberal gun laws but still only a few people buy them and no one i ever heard of carries.
and even though people seem to be sometimes scared of "eastern europe" (watch too much Hostel, huh?), you can see girls run around alone and drunk at 4 am. and guess what? nothing happens.
it's not about guns or not - it's about culture. and while i admire the american culture for many things, i think there are also some things that incredibly suck and do not fit a developed, western society.
