When living in manhattan in this new millenium, keep this general thought in mind:
The lower the street numbers = the safer the neighborhood... Unless you hit the lower east side, then it's dangerous again.
And what the hell does "too far from everything" mean in nyc? Never heard such a thing.
I don't plan any nightly adventures, pretty much just exploring the attractions during the day and using taxi most of the time. Still too dangerous?
