I wore air monitoring devices while working, and yes, theyve measured amounts of chemicals that seem to be not high enough in levels to harm us....
I know people that were burned, struck by lightening, sliced open etc... all during oil spill cleanup. It was terribly difficult work in extreme conditions wearing Tyvek suits with internal temps of over 130. One instance a girl used expired sunblock (given to us by BP) and it burned her face terrble, scarred her, she is suing right now... in addition, yes respiratory effects and other effcts are coming out.
As for me, i dont know, so far my tests seem ok. I have print outs of the devices I wore and my exposure limits.
