There's a book called "Confessions of an Economic Hitman", written by a guy who basically negotiated deals to rape and pillage countries. One of the largest endeavours the US undertook was Saudi Arabia, hence why there's still currently almost never any disputes with them as an ally. It's a good read.

The US getting in with the House of Saud is their shining example. I read the book a while back.
