But then he went public and rubbed it in their faces with that interview. Studio execs don't get to that level by being pushed around and humiliated, so they let him know who the real bosses are.

This has nothing to do with drug use, it has to do with someone thinking he had more control than he actually did.

Trust me, the execs don't care about his drug use. But if you humiliate people in power they will fuck you over, even if it costs them money.
