Thanks for the replies everyone, I already have the ability to import into tube style themes without any dramas. It's the posting and construction of plain wordpress posts into a standard theme where I am having problems with csv import.

I think it might be a good idea to contract out the task of writing a dedicated plugin, might post a job on scriptlance and see what I can come up with.
