let's also not forget the pain that US horses have to go through because of ... American horse lovers:
until 2007: (older) US horses were slaughtered in the US and the meat was used as dog food or shipped off to France, Japan, Belgium, Italy, ... for human consumption (since it's illegal to eat horse in most US states, it had to be exported)
BUT then horse lovers heard about horses being slaughtered for export, they got all mad, got politicians & courts involved and so the slaughter houses were closed
RESULT: overpopulation of horses, which are now shipped off to Mexico in horrible conditions to get slaughtered there
I'm sorry a horse is not a pet, it can be, sure, but so can a pig, doesn't mean we should make it illegal to eat pig or cow
that said: Argentina, as all countries, should do more checking for animal cruelty
