this isn't just keyboard shit. have a few friends lost to the conspiracy worldview.
they feel absolutely hopeless and powerless to change anything in their life because they think it's all rigged and "they" are too super-powerful and dominant to be taken on.
which i think is the real reason conspiracies exist: they take smarter than average people who question things and remove them from society ... which creates less hassle for the real elites than if they became trade unionists or civil rights activists.
