yes, generally it is all done on credit too, they arrive in the US owing $7000 to the coyotes that got them there, so when they end up finding a job they might work 10 hour days of which half the money might go to pay the debt to the coyotes, and a good chunk of the rest would go back to support their family, leaving them a small amount to live on, which they are good at living frugally, lots of lower priced foods like dried beans to make soups with, etc.
you won't hear them complain, they are very dedicated and have a strong sense of familial duty
as far as the "nasty and hot", that is an understatement, many strong and healthy end up getting sick from the harsh conditions, minimal food and water, very long hours (days) on the road squashed and cramped in poorly ventilated hot trailer, it would be crazy
