I personally wouldn't own one because of their aggression, inherited temperament, and the shit backyard breeding practices.
and 2) they are a huge liability. Now I'm sure a Chihuahua would attack you before a pit bull would, but at least with a Chihuahua attack you do not end up maimed or in a body bag.

In my life I have never had a pit bull even be aggressive towards me (in fairness I have only ever really been around a handful of them one being the people I grew up next door to), but I have been bitten several times by Chihuahuas and Dachshunds. Those little bastards can be be very aggressive. You just never hear about it. If a Pit Bull bites you you are likely in trouble and headed for the hospital, if a Chihuahuas bites you you are likely headed for the medicine cabinet to get a band aid.
I read recently that the dogs that are the two biggest biters as far as total number of bites are German Shepherds and Chow's. With the Shepherds it is likely because they are very popular and there are ton of them. Still, if I had small kids I would never get a Pit Bull. Training it is one thing, but if the dog snaps and decides to bit it can do some real damage.
