both hits were cheap and reckless - both Ference's skates were a foot off the ice and he went for the head. the Rome hit was worse, Horton wasn't anywhere near the puck after having passed it. Rome knew Horton wasn't paying attention to his blind side and he coiled his body to inflict the hardest hit he could.

difference between the 2 hits is Rome's put Horton to sleep on the ice, he was clearly oblivious to the sneak attack and he wasn't playing the puck.
