Oh wow do I have a ton of opinions on this...I actually have a very interesting point of view as I started out in this biz 98 ish... I have helped build programs, sites, set standards that are still being used today, but at the same time, for a period of about 5 years or so I wasn't that active in this community until a few months back. (I've been more active in best practices, and other groups)

I realize I missed out on some "interesting" times, and we can talk tubes, etc all we want but realistically the first time someone downloaded even music for free, we knew what free streaming adult content would do to membership-bases, etc...people under a certain age these days don't pay for any of their entertainment...and that age group is getting larger all the time (expanding in both directions)

Honestly, and I assume many here will disagree with me here but the biggest change I noticed was the fact that it is not our industry that's driving new innovations, online conventions, and deciding how people use and experience the internet, it is now social networks and the like. - These have become the driving force, the rudder...its not us any longer.

Do we just need to re-invent ourselves as a group, industry etc...because the only "innovation" I see these days coming from our little community is simply "innovatively undercutting your cometitors and fighting over the same traffic"

Maybe I've just had too much coffee today...but I am all for having discussions about this here, off list, etc...anyone who knows me knows I like to talk shop....maybe we can all firgure out a way to get back to to the glory days, "when the tubes were paved with gold"

just my 2 cents...maybe this all added up to be 3 cents...you folsk can be the judge
