Personally I wouldn't live in the Midlands, I live in the sunny south. But I doubt prices are very much different. Unless you want to live in some scummy shit hole.

Not anywhere that is anywhere near livable it wouldn't be. For a three bed house thats nothing flash, but ok area, you will need about £1000 ($1600) a month
1) Gas £1000 ($1600) a year
2) Electricity £1000 ($1600) a year
3) Council tax?? £1500 ($2400) a year
4) Internet £100 ($160) a year
5) tv £150 a year ($240)
6) food for 4 Depends on how much you eat? We feed 2 plus 2 children for £600 ($900) a month at least
7) public transport ( bus? ) monthly pass Never used a bus, only scum bags and smelly people go on busses
8) chinese/indian/sushi eating out, depends on how much you eat, but you can get away with £60-£100 for 4 without wine and eat decent enough
9) Small car 5 year old ( like Vauxhall ) cost and insurance Depends how much rust it has
10) Bottle of beer in the pub? £3.20 ($4.80)
