The helicopter was a twin-rotor Chinook, said an official at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Most of the crashes were attributed to pilot errors, weather conditions or mechanical failures. However, the coalition has confirmed that at least one CH-47F Chinook helicopter was hit by a rocket propelled grenade on July 25.
Maybe one of you military guys can explain this to me.

When they raided Osama, this super elite killing force went in on some super bad ass helicopter that supposedly had top secret technology and the US was sweating Pakistan giving intel from the one downed helicopter to someone else. But to engage against the Taliban they go in a NATO CH-47F Chinook that is large, slow moving, and an easy target.

I'm just a gullible civilian, but why is a group as elite as these guys flying some hunk of shit easy target when they could cruise through on one of the more advanced helicopters? That just sounds like a really, really stupid thing to do to your most advanced special forces unit who you've spent so much time and money training.
