Shop owners and staff were calling police while they were in the shops with 100s of people smashing thier way in, then taking what they wanted. The police never turned up, Some of them were threatened and some of them hid and some of them got out through back windows. It might look like fun seeing it on the TV or in films but its not

As someone who has lost a home to a fire (years back, due to an accident, not a crime) i can really feel for those people fired out of their houses. Losing a house must be the worst thing that can happen to you short of losing a loved one. I'm in two minds about this, it would make sense to shut down local twitter/facebook/ect access during times like we have seen in the last few days BUT the process is so open to govenmental abuse that it's really a difficult one to call.
