public hospitals are free for 'real' dominicans (not me or you). i got bit by a dog on my bike a few months ago, ER cost me 5000 pesos, about $150.. for a treatment, wrap, and cipro script. you can get health insurance for $30/month but so far as who accepts it.... they like to play that game with everything here. theyre extreme hustlers
another odd time i got a qtip cotton stuck in my ear, ignored it for 2 weeks, got ear infection, needed to get it out cause i could hear on that side. that cost me 3500 pesos, about $100. these are all extortionate gringo prices but you cant avoid them no matter what. you should be in relatively good shape/health before moving here or you're a bigger mark than need be
