Here's two cents from the other side.
Iran tops the list as one of the most stunning countries I've been to; landscape, history and people.
Don't confuse the government (which is fucked up) - with the population - which is educated, generous and down-right nice.
It's not a nest of extremists. I didn't see a single woman in a burka. If you want wall-to-wall burkas and prayer-call competitions, try the east of turkey.
As a PS: We got taken in by the miliatry for trying to camp on a salt lake. They were very nice. Gave us tea, chocolate, and a place to stay the night.
