What Nikon is doing is very smart. First they are protecting their dealers. Dealers have an interest in providing good support and repairs for the prices they charge and don't want to be undercut by someone using shitty parts or poor quality after-market components. Next, Nikon is protecting its brand. They are one of the best camera companies in the world and don't want to have the quality of their product and after sales support ruined either.
This in my opinion gives me even more reason to buy another Nikon in the future.
