There have been a few changes since Johnson was around.
18th century London sounds like a fun place - not the disease ridden free-for all that it had been in the previous century, not yet completely given over to finance, an arts scene worth the name, and still a manageable size. Vibrant in the original sense of the word, not as a euphemism for 'Paki infested'.
