Social Security Death Benefit is a ONE TIME payment. Not for ever and is about $250-350 depending on the persons age and money they paid into Social Security. Had he been a father, his children would get Social Security until 18, but no mother or father gets a lifetime payment for a dead son.[/QUOTE]

I use the wrong term. There is a one time death benefit of $255. However, there is survivor benefit.

My father died in 1969 in Vietnam when I was nine months old. My mother collected SSN for both her husband having died, and also on my behalf because my father died. My mother collected until she re-married, and collected for me until I turned 18.

I just pulled out my last statement from SSN, and if my child dies I collect $1533 a month. My wife would get the same.
