good job, again glad you made it out as you did... those situations can ALWAYS turn very ugly.

In my experience, cops seem to like those with CCW permits. I've been pulled over for traffic violations and it most often goes like this:
I roll down my window and set both hands on the window sill or steering wheel in plain sight. The officer comes up and begins to speak. No matter what he has said, I say, "Officer, I have something to tell you" the moment I have a chance to speak. Almost always, he replies, "You're not going to tell me you have a firearm, are you?" I say, "Actually, that's exactly what I am going to tell you. But I also have a CCW permit."
He'll then usually ask to see the CCW permit, ask where the guns are in the car. Ask if I'll allow him to get them (if they are in his reach). He'll then compare the numbers and almost always tell me to have a nice day and be on my way, without even checking my driver's license.
My THEORY is this... either:
1. He sees a guy with a CCW as someone who must be okay, since I've had to go through a federal background check to get my permit
or
2. He doesn't like the idea of having to go back and forth between his cruiser and a vehicle that has a legally armed citizen waiting (impatiently) inside.
I dunno which one is the case, but I do know my CCW almost always gets me out of tickets.
