Are they capable of having heart attacks? Seizures? Poor coordination? Are they capable of being intoxicated? Too old? Too tired? Do machines have poor eye sight? Are they capable of road rage? Jealousy? Aggression? Are they capable of making poor decisions? Are they capable of being distracted? Arguing with their kids? Talking on the phone? Texting? Reading a book?
No? That's because machines are more reliable. Exponentially more reliable. Machines can do anything with far greater reliability and safety than humans.
Autonomy represents the end of traffic jams. The end of searching for a parking spot. The end of waiting on the asshole in front of you to decide what they're going to do on the road. It also represents the end of driver error, which happens all the time due to all of the above listed reasons.
Humans are far more infallible than you think.
