It's a sad situation all around for sure. Kapelli will certainly be a changed man, no longer the tough-guy he once thought he was. I'm sure he (and the surrounding group) will now realize how life is fragile. He's lucky to be alive after this.
I do think it was mostly his own doing, however. What a hard lesson for everyone involved.
