This does not illustrate the lemming effect... the reason they end up going off cliffs is not because the first one willingly jumps, and the rest willingly follow. It's more like a massive traffic jam that ends up with everyone rear-ending everyone else and pushing the whole fucking bunch of the front lemmings right off the cliff. The first one stops, and the rest don't realize it... ending in a stampede / pile-up.
Much like rush hour traffic in Los Angeles.
