- Quality of content.
- Quality of customer support

With the idea being that the higher score lends to the overall improvement of the adult industry in general, higher sales for affiliates, etc?

Making the criteria public and the scores of each, by each judge, public after the show will demonstrate transparency and silence the people who will scream "fixed", and invite discussion to help other site owners to improve their own work at the same time, giving a little boost to the industry as a whole.

Just my 2 cents..
Well the AVN Awards uses the "judges" approach, although different than what you suggest in they use more judges with less transparency. With the YNOT Awards, we wanted to give the industry a chance to make the decision about who to recognize. We wanted it to be CLEAR that the industry picks the winners, not us, and not judges that we personally appointed to make the decisions.

Yes this does mean as you suggest that popularity is a big factor, but 1) there is no perfect system, 2) popularity does indicate success IMHO, and 3) there's no reason why an up and coming company couldn't use a tenacious campaign for a YNOT Award as a means to make a case for itself.

We think this event is an excellent opportunity for companies to draw attention to their best accomplishments.

And you know, even with all the transparency that you mentioned, there would STILL be cries that the results were fixed.
