Maybe tipping sites are different; I was thinking more of the traditional kind. I still think some kind of reminder or incentive to sign up is good though. Popups and timeouts are annoying but I think they work, for people who would sign up anyway.
From affiliates POV, it's better to have such people 'motivated' to sign up ASAP, rather than 6 months down the line of forming a relationship with a model.
