Normally you write very intelligent stuff - that is actually exactly what happens when someone is surprised. Have you ever seen anyone fake falling on their face like that? People who are prepared for punches even if they are knocked out fall differently. That is real, that really happened. I understand the urge to wish it was fake, but it wasn't.
